Hosts with passion at hotel Felben Family Scharler and team

From a farm to a children’s hotel. And always with us: our passion for hosting, traditional Austrian hospitality, and plenty of helping hands. This is a rough summary of the story of our children’s hotel, Hotel Felben. But it’s not quite that simple. Therefore, we’d like to provide a glimpse here.

Who we are

Since 2009, Christoph and Petra Scharler have been running the children’s hotel Felben in Mittersill. They are deeply rooted in the region while always being open to new ideas. During your stay, you will likely meet more family members: Parents Franz and Barbara Scharler, for example, during their morning swim. Daughter Franziska is part of the reception team, and son Sebastian supports the kitchen staff. In the restaurant, brother-in-law Rangi ensures smooth operations. Many other long-standing employees have become almost like family to the children’s hotel Felben.

From farm to children's hotel: our story

Spacious rooms, a swimming pool, a restaurant — at first glance, our children’s hotel Felben seems quite different from a traditional farm. However, upon closer inspection, there are details that hark back to its origins, such as the stables where cows and horses are housed or the petting zoo. These elements have been around for a long time and have been in the possession of the Scharler family for centuries. Balthasar Scharler purchased the Felbermeilingerhof in 1824, and it has been passed down through generations since then.

In 1955, over a century later, the farm underwent its first transformation: a guest room was established in the courtyard at the request of the local community. In 1958, with the arrival of the first holiday guest from Vienna, the farm took on its new role as a hotel for the first time. Over time, more areas of the Felbermeilingerhof were converted into guest rooms. By 1989, the Scharler family began the process of transforming the 2-star guesthouse with restaurant into a family hotel.

By 1992, the former farm was proudly awarded four stars and officially recognized as a children’s hotel. Since then, the offerings for children have been continuously improved and expanded.

In 2009, the children’s hotel received 5 smileys, the highest rating from Children’s Hotels Europe. This award has since been replaced—we are now proud to be a “Premium+” children’s hotel. Since 2019, our establishment has also been shining as a 4-star superior hotel.
